DEFINTITION OF CLASS CATEGORIES:
Masters – qualified technicians who have won a trophy in the last three years
Open – qualified technicians with no limitations who have not won a trophy in the last three years.
Restricted – technicians qualified less than 18 months
Note for Restricted Classes:
Please forward a copy of your certificate verifying your entry in this category. Please note that if the certificate does not accompany the application, entry will be transferred to the Open category.
COMPETITION RULES
1. All competitors must supply their own model. Only one model per competitor per class is allowed. Models must remove all jewellery and cover any identifying marks. Sleeves must be rolled up above the elbow.
2. Competitors must supply all product clearly labelled in original containers which comply with the relevant labelling laws. Competitors must also supply the necessary equipment to complete the class in which they have entered, e.g. lights, towels, hand-cleansing equipment, double adaptor, etc. Power Boards will be supplied directly to each table. Drinking water will be supplied. No smoking, eating or drinking will be allowed in the competition area except for water, which will be supplied.
3. Observance of OH&S will be a consideration in the judging.
4. Competitors and models must be present in the competition area at least 30 minutes before the commencement time of the class to register and set-up their workstation.
5. No competitor or model is to leave the competition area until instructed to do so by the Head Judge or Floor Manager. If you need assistance, raise your hand and an official will come and assist you.
6. You must have all the items you need for the competition with you at the commencement of the competition time. No items can be passed to you and nothing can be removed from your bag after competition commences. All bags are to be removed from the competition area.
7. All time limits will be strictly adhered to – competitors not present when competition commences will not be admitted to the floor. Penalties will result if any competitor continues to touch their model after time has been called.
8. In the event of less than 5 competitors in any one category, at the discretion of the judges, that category may be combined with another in the same class, a handicap system applied, the class cancelled or held with a reduced number, in which case first place only will apply.
9. The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Protests can be made immediately following a class, but must be within five (5) minutes of completion, and must be in writing to the floor manager. Judging will cover all 10 nails. Incomplete nails will be assessed on a pro-rata basis. No discussions will be entered into regarding competition outcomes with anyone other than the competitor.
10. Electric files may not be used in technical classes.

12. Score sheets may not be available on the day – however a score summary will be posted at the end of the day.
13. Time limit – as outlined on the entry form and will be strictly adhered to.TECHNICAL CRITERIA
1. All nails should be consistent in length and shape from finger to finger and hand to hand. The length and shape of the free edge should compliment the shape of the hand and the nail bed.
2. Judging will cover all ten nails with one hand to be painted in red crème polish, which will be supplied. All nails must be constructed from any one medium. A floor judge will be present to ensure that the painted hands comply before they are painted.
3. No pre-tailoring of tips is allowed. Tip trays will be inspected prior to competition start time.
4. Acetone, tip blenders, nail polish remover and corrector pens will be allowed. Gel Top coats will be permitted in the Gel category only where they form part of the gel process. Topcoats cannot be used with any other medium.
5. Hygiene procedures must be observed in accordance with industry regulations. A sanitising agent must be used and correct preparation procedures must be completed on all technical classes. Sanitisable implements must be placed in a container clearly labelled ‘for sanitation’ and all non-sanitisable items must be discarded in the rubbish bag. Points will be awarded for hygiene and desk presentation. Point 6 in last years rules relating to pre-assessment has been deleted.
6. Pre-assessment: Nails entered in the Backfill class only will be pre-assessed and allocated a score for degree of difficulty. The harder the nails will be to perfect – the higher the degree of difficulty score will be.
7. Comments on cuts and nicks will be recorded for the benefit of the screen judge only. It is the responsibility of the competitor to ensure that they bring a suitable model free of cuts and infection.
8. Judging criteria for nails: Free edge, side view arch, side wall alignment, barrel contour, cuticle blending, soft tissue damage, surface imperfections, colour distinction, underside appearance, overall appearance & shaping, polish application.
9. Judging criteria for competitor: professionalism, hygiene, OH&S, overall appearance, equipment and presentation.
FRENCH TWIST:
1. This class is judged using the technical criteria outlined above. Only three colours are permitted to be used, pink, white and clear. You may use less but not more.
2. The judging criteria for the nails is as outlined for technical with the inclusion of "artistic ability“ replacing “polish application”.
3. Drills must not be used in this class.
ART CLASSES:
1. 10 nails must be completed and all must follow the same theme.
2. Length of nails from the cuticle must not exceed 5cm.
3. Nails may be painted with one coat of one colour per nails but free of any decoration.
4. Judging Criteria for Art Classes will be:
Artistic Ability, Aesthetic Value, Creativity, Colour Content, Overall Presentation.
NAIL ART 3D:
This section is to allow for high levels of creativity and imagination.
1. No costumes. Presentation props will not attract points.
2. Initial length of the nail is no more than 5cm from the cuticle line at the commencement of the class.
3. Height is optional.
4. Pre-moulding allowed but must be assembled on the competition floor.
5. Any product can be used.
6. Final outcome is for the artwork to be built onto the nail.
7. Judging Criteria for 3DArt Classes will be:
Artistic Ability, % of work on the day, Colour Content, Ingenuity of Design, Overall Presentation.
FLAT NAIL ART:
1. Any form of flat decoration may be used but must go no higher than diamante SS5 size. decals, feathers, skins, stencils.
2. SALON – means simple artwork which one would be done under salon conditions. Simple techniques such as striping, diamantes, brushwork, marbling, decals, stencils, feathers and any combinations of such techniques would be recommended.
3. INTRICATE - means a more sophisticated level of performance for more advanced techniques such as layering of coloured products airbrushing, advanced brushwork or any combination of such techniques and the use of any method of decoration.
4. The competitor will nominate in which section they are competing on the entry form.
5. Judging Criteria for Flat Nail Art Classes will be:
Artistic Ability, Aesthetic Value, Ingenuity of Design, Colour Content, Overall Presentation
