BUSINESS BOOMED AT THE SYDNEY INTERNATIONAL BEAUTY EXPO

Beauty certainly meant business at the 2006 Sydney International Beauty Expo, where more than 11,000* quality visitors and a 250 strong exhibitor line-up met to discover and demonstrate all that is new in the beauty industry.

Taking place 9 – 10 September 2006 at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour, the Sydney International Beauty Expo reinforced its position as the largest and longest running beauty event in Australia, where more than 900 brands and some of the world’s leading beauty industry wholesalers including Dermalogica, Thalgo, Payot, Pevonia and Sothys & Pelactive offered a huge range of contemporary and innovative products and concepts.

“The Sydney International Beauty Expo was a glamorous and successful weekend and it has certainly earned its spot as a major event on the beauty industry calendar. The vibrant stands and enthusiastic buyers generated a great buzz on the floor, providing an excellent purchasing and business environment”, said Lauren Ebbeck, Exhibition Manager, Sydney International Beauty Expo.

While sales and customer relations were in full swing, the educational and entertainment component of the Expo featured prominently in Sydney. The prestigious 2006 Nail Awards were once again a major drawcard, showcasing extraordinary colourful nail designs with Viv Simmonds, of Vivid Nail & Beauté, taking out the much sought-after Robert Bowrey Perpetual Trophy.  The extensive program of Beauty Updates offering techniques, tips and tricks direct from industry experts was well attended, as were the Art of Make-up Awards hosted by award-winning make-up artist Meryll Faulkner.

The Business of Beauty Seminars proved popular with attendees gaining practical skills on everything from skin care and spa marketing, to business development and the latest motivational techniques.  Visitors received important insights into strategies and tactics designed to improve knowledge, business practices and opportunities from prominent educators and international personalities.  Speakers included Vanessa Gay, Vice President of the Australasian Spa Association (ASpa) and Director of SpaCareers.com.au, Emma Hobson, International Education Manager for the International Dermal Institute, and keynote speaker Dr Peter Pugliese, founder of the Circadia Skin Care Institute.

“The Sydney International Beauty Expo again provided us with genuinely interested, quality buyers and a business platform that allowed us direct exposure to a growing market. We have been involved with the Sydney International Beauty expo for around nine years now, and we believe it’s essential to continue to put time and energy into the Expo because of its power in bringing the industry together under one roof,” said Bree Pringle, National Sales and Training Manger, Pelactiv.

Janine Lindsay, National Sales Coordinator, Thalgo said that the Expo is a major tool for Thalgo to lift and develop its industry profile.

“It’s a one-stop-shop for buyers and is the perfect opportunity for us to meet, educate and assist new and existing customers with their purchasing decisions,” she said.

The indulgent trip to Paris that was on offer to visitors who pre-registered their attendance to the Expo was won by Julieanne Michel, owner of a “A Body Divine”, a start-up salon in Wavell Heights Qld which is set to open in four week’s time.  Julieanne receives a return economy airfare to Paris, and a luxury treatment in the famous SOTHYS Paris Institute on the prestigious rue du Faubourg St Honore, Paris.

Organisers are now preparing for the 2007 Melbourne International Beauty Expo & Conference taking place 28-29 April 2007, at the Melbourne Exhibition & Convention Centre.

“We are receiving many enquiries about being involved with the Melbourne Expo & Conference so we encourage exhibitors to book early to ensure a prime position,” said Ebbeck.
